UPDATED: ALL lanes on the M56 at Warrington have now reopened after emergency services rescued a woman trapped in a car following a multiple vehicle collision, involving a lorry and two other vehicles earlier today.
Shortly before 3pm Fire engines from Lymm, Warrington and Penketh along with a further engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue attended at the M56 eastbound between J10 (Stretton) and J9 (M6/Lymm) which was closed following the collision.
At least three vehicles were involved in the road traffic collision leaving one person trapped in a hatchback. The motorway was fully closed while emergency services worked at the scene. The air ambulance and police were also in attendance.
The crews removed the roof of the hatchback to enable the casualty to be extricated from the vehicle. North West Ambulance Service crews assessed the drivers of the other two vehicles, a transit van and a HGV.
At around 4:30pm firefighters extricated the casualty and handed her into the care of the ambulance service. She was taken to hospital.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the crash – once of which was a lorry. The other two vehicles are a car and van.
Delays of 1 hour above normal, with 11 miles of congestion. Westbound, all lanes are now open – with 4 miles of congestion remaining.
UPDATED 18:20 All lanes are now open on the #M56 eastbound between J10 (Stretton) and J9 (M6/Lymm) following an earlier collision. Delays of 15 minutes above normal remain in the area, with 8 miles of slow-moving traffic on the approach.
