No objections, no harm… but loft conversion would “unbalance” a pair of semis

A PLAN for a loft conversion at a semi-detached house in Stockton Heath has been rejected by planning chiefs at Warrington.

There were no objections from neighbours in Burnside Avenue and officers admitted the principle of development was acceptable, the living conditions of adjacent occupers were protected from harm and there were no unacceptable impacts on the highway network.

A Warrington borough councillor supported the scheme because a similar extension had been granted in the same road.

But officers said the proposed hip-to-gable loft conversion extensions would “unbalance” the pair of semi-detached houses, and this would have a discordant and prominent effect on the street scene.

This would have a discordant and prominent effect on the street scene and the development would not enhance the defined local character.

The officer’s recommendation was to refuse the application – and the committee agreed.
