THE Rugby League world is mourning the loss of Warrington’s former flying winger Des Drummond, who has died at the age of 63.

The former international winger played 24 times for Great Britain, and also finished runner-up on the popular BBC TV series “Superstars.”

Drummond who was born in Jamaica was a legend at both Leigh and Warrington – winning a league title with Leigh in 1982.

“Des was a superstar whose brilliance created so many memories,” Leigh said in a statement.

“He was a humble, modest and much-loved person.”

Drummond made his name at Leigh before moving to Warrington, captaining the side and winning the Regal Trophy against Bradford in 1991.

Warrington held a minute’s silence for Drummond before their friendly with Wigan in a game for Stefan Ratchford’s testimonial which Wigan won 6-14.

When Drummond finished second in ‘Superstars’ in 1983 – posting a 100m time of 10.85 seconds that would have seen him qualify for the 1984 Olympics.

During his career at Warrington from 1987 to 1992 Drummond played 182 games scoring 69 tries totaling 276 points.
