The only guide you need to maintain your laminate floor

0

Created in the late 1970s, laminate flooring is one of the most popular flooring choices throughout the UK.

Not only does it have a wide range of colours and designs, but it’s also highly water-resistant, affordable and durable, it’s no wonder why homeowners love it so much! Did we mention it’s also incredibly low maintenance?

You could spill a whole bottle of red wine and it will always be super quick and easy to clean. But if you want to maintain its gorgeous appearance, there are a few things you should think about.

Here is the only guide you need to maintain your laminating flooring.

Your essentials

Before you get stuck in, here is a reminder of the cleaning equipment you will need.

  • Trusted laminate floor cleaner
  • Microfiber Mop
  • Dustpan and brush
  • Sweeping bush
  • Bucket
  • Floor cloth

You can also pick up a cleaning kit from your flooring supplier that’s guaranteed to give you the best results.

Removing stains

Whether it’s on a white t-shirt or your floor, stains are a nightmare to remove. But thankfully, this isn’t the case with laminate. However, you should clean up any split food or drink right away to minimise any damages.

If a substance with high pigmentation like paint, ink or makeup has left a mark, you need to remove the stain with a little acetone. Wipe lightly with a soft cloth until the stain has been removed. Simple!

Vacuuming and Sweeping

If you have a busy household (or a quiet one), your floor is bound to get a little dirty from time to time. Best way to keep it clean? Daily sweeping and vacuuming! This will also prevent your boards from looking dull and worn too. Remember to use a sweeping brush with soft bristles to stop your laminate floor from being scratched. You don’t want the lovely sheen to go!

Mopping

While laminate flooring is water-resistant, excess moisture may damage your boards. Spills large or small should be cleaned up right away with a microfiber cloth or mop.

If you’re removing large scale grime, use a trusted cleaner and microfiber mop to remove any nasty bits. Do not use a steam cleaner as this may cause your boards to move, especially if they have been glued down.

Top tip – Clean along the grains to reduce the appearance of streaks.

Heavy-duty cleaning

Sometimes things can get a little out of hand and if your floor needs some good taking care of, keep reading. If you accidentally spill something hard to remove like nail polish, candle wax or chewing gum, use ice to harden the area and carefully scrape it off the board. Use a plastic scraper that will stop your floor from scratching.

And there you have it! It’s not so hard to maintain your laminate floor. If you have any other ideas, let us know in the comments below.
