DETECTIVES have launched an appeal for witnesses and video footage after Christmas gifts and sentimental jewellery were stolen after burglars forced entry into an elderly woman’s home at Orford, Warrington, yesterday.

Sometime between 4pm and 7.30pm on Thursday 30 December unknown offenders forced entry into an address on Fitzherbert Street via the back door.

Once inside they searched the address and stole a number of items, including cash, sentimental jewellery and gift cards, which had been given to the victim as a Christmas present.

The offenders then left the scene through the back garden and onto a former railway embankment at the rear of the address.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone with any information which may aid their investigation.

Detective Constable Ian Morris said: “Being the victim of a burglary is always a traumatic experience, but in this case the victim in this case is an elderly lady and many of the items stolen were of great sentimental value to her.

“We are committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible and we’re already following a number of lines of enquiry.

“As part of our investigation we’re also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“I would also ask nearby residents and drivers to check their CCTV or dashcam footage and come forward if you believe it may be useful to our investigation.

“If you have any information, no matter how small, please call us on 101, quoting IML 1167260 or give the details via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report .

“Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
