TWO men have been arrested after police seized hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of counterfeit prescription drugs and illicit cigarettes following a raid in Orford, Warrington.

Over recent months, officers from the Warrington Problem Solving Team have been undertaking a detailed investigation in relation to the illegal supply of prescription drugs in the town.

On Tuesday 21 December, the team conducted a warrant at an address in Orford where they recovered thousands of counterfeit prescription drugs, approximately £200,000 worth of counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco and a large quantity of stolen wine and spirits.

Two local men, aged 67 and 31, were also arrested at the address on suspicion of money laundering and handling stolen goods.

The pair have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Anthony Sullivan, from Warrington Problem Solving Team, said: “This warrant forms part of our ongoing investigation in relation to the supply of illegal drugs.

“Illicit drugs have no place on in our town; they ruin the lives of some of most vulnerable people in our community, while lining the pockets of shameless criminals.

“I want to reassure the public we are doing all we can to crackdown on this type of activity.

“However, we can’t do our job without the public’s help and cannot repeat enough the message that you are vital in helping your community by telling us when illegal activity is happening.

“If anyone has any information about illegal drug activity or any other criminal activity taking place in your community then they should report it to Cheshire Police on 101 or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tua .

“Information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
