HGV driver raises £1,700 for breast cancer patients doing sponsored run in pink bra!

LATCHFORD-based HGV driver Tony Jenkinson recently raised £1700 for breast cancer care services at Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals by embarking on a sponsored run wearing little more than a bright pink bra.

Tony, who works as an HGV driver for Morrisons and also volunteers for the North West Ambulance Service as an Enhanced Community First Responder, completed the half-marathon (13.1 miles) in an impressive 2 hours and 4 minutes, starting and ending his run at the famous Golden Gates in Warrington Town Centre.

He felt compelled to take on this challenge in honour of friends who have suffered from breast cancer, including Jan Gregory, who had a mastectomy approximately a year ago and is now thankfully in remission, as well as Michelle Thompson, who sadly passed away from breast cancer last year.

“Michelle truly was the life and soul of the party and is sorely missed by all that knew her,” says Tony.

Supporting Tony on his run was old school friend, Nicola ‘Nic’ Dak, who was also friends with Michelle and who, unfortunately, lost her sister, Debbie ‘Debs’ White, to breast cancer 11 years ago.

All of the money raised by Tony will go to Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals’ ‘Moobs & Boobs’ campaign, which aims to raise funds for all things breast care related at the Trust, for both men and women.

Helen Higginson, Fundraising Manager at Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals’ Charity, says, “We are so incredibly grateful to Tony for stepping outside of the box and taking on this challenge to raise money for our patients.”

“The unit offers amazing diagnostics and kind, compassionate care, but could do so much more with those ‘above and beyond’ things that the NHS doesn’t fund, such as ‘first fit post-operative bras’ for mastectomy patients that would otherwise cost the patient around £60,” continues Helen.
