FIREFIGHTERS were kept busy in the Warrington area last night with a spate of fires – at least one of which was suspected arson.

A crew from Penketh was called to a fire in the open in a park off Santa Rosa Boulevard, Chapelford shortly before 7.30 pm where a bin was found well alight. A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames.
An examination of the scene led firefighters to believe the fire had been started deliberately and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting IML 1134603.
Earlier, a crew from Warrington Fire Station was called to deal with a fire involving an industrial bin off Winwick Street. A hose reel jet was used to deal with the outbreak.
Another fire, shortly after 6pm, involved a bin in a park off Boston Boulevard, Chapelford and a crew from Penketh used a water backpack to put out the fire.
Earlier, a fire engine from Chester went to Warrington Road, Penketh, where fire broke out in a bedroom.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a cigarette, was out on arrival but the crew ventilated the property and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots.
There were no reports of any injuries.
