Police renew appeal after couple stabbed in alleyway at Gorse Covert

POLICE are continuing to appeal for information from the public following reports of a stabbing incident involving a husband and wife walking home late at night in the Gorse Covert area of Warrington on Thursday evening.

The woman received head injuries that required seven stitches while her husband required eleven stitches to a hand-wound following the incident with three unknown men in an alleyeway near a local shop.



The victims suspect they were slashed with a type of Stanley knife.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “On Thursday 14 October, officers became aware of a post circulating on social media in relation to an assault in the area.
At that stage, no incident had been reported to police and no-one had come forward to identify themselves as a victim.
Following a number of enquiries, officers have now located and spoken to a man and a woman in connection with the incident.
The husband and wife, who do not want to take the matter any further at this stage, confirmed that they were involved in an altercation with three unknown men in an alleyway near to the One Stop shop.
The incident is believed to have taken place at around 12.30am on 14 October.
As a result, the pair sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital by a member of the public. They were both discharged a short time later.
Sergeant Stuart Gibbard said: “I understand the concern that this incident has caused and I want to reassure the local community that we have now spoken to the victims. They do not wish to take the matter any further however we are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries in the area.
