Planners reject “eco” storage unit – even though it’s already built

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have thrown out proposals for a “eco”, communal allotment storage unit – even though it has already been built.

The structure is on Green Belt land in Glazebrook Lane, Rixton and, according to planning officers, is an inappropriate development.

They say that because of its siting, scale, design, poor method of construction and the use of inappropriate materials, is harmful to the visual amenity of the area.
The site is at allotments on the northern side of Glazebrook Lane, just south of the M62 motorway.
Planning officers say the site is densely populated with sheds, temporary structures, tents, pre-fabriated office-style buildings, fences and greenhouses.
The structure in question consists of motor vehicle tyres, timber supports, recycled windows and doors.
Soil banks have been created around it.
Rixton with Glazebrook Parish Council has lodged objections because the development is an eyesore which can be seen from Holcroft Lane and the M62.
The applicants argue that the building is for the use of allotment holders for general storage and the storage of fertilisers. But officers says the number of other sheds and other structures on the site there is no further need for such a building.
