A special Battle of Britain Memorial Service took place at St Elphin’s Church, Warrington, yesterday, 12 months on from what should have been the 80th anniversary of the historic fight for air supremacy during World War II.

Local residents joined veterans, members of the armed forces and 1330 Warrington Squadron Air Cadets to mark the 81 st anniversary of the Battle of Britain after last year’s services were cancelled due to Covid.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter, who attended the event said: “Twelve months on from the 80th anniversary we were finally able to come together on Battle of Britain Sunday to give thanks for the dedication and heroism of members of the Royal Air Force and particularly to remember those from Warrington in that remarkable struggle for air supremacy over Britain in 1940.
“Their courage marked a turning point in the war, without their bravery it is hard to see how the Second World War could have been won.”
