LOCAL Cllrs are thrilled to hear that £305,000 Government funding has been approved for the Culcheth culvert renewal in a bid to prevent further flooding issues.

News of the announcement that the culvert which runs through Churchill Avenue will be renewed has been welcomed by the Borough and Parish Councillors in Culcheth Glazebury & Croft.
Heavy rains last week have again seen many roads in the village flooded for the second time this year.
Cllr Wendy Maisey said: “We’re thrilled to be allocated a share of the £5.2 billion Government investment in flood defences nationally which will make a big difference to residents in our village. The floods last week have served as a timely reminder that it doesn’t take much for this to happen and we’ve seen first-hand the disruption, distress and financial impact it has on people”
Cllr Val Allen sadded: “This is great news for the area, we have suffered over many years from flooding throughout Culcheth, Glazebury & Croft, this is the first step to getting to the root of the problem, when heavy rains come it’s vital that this water gets away quickly and does not cause devastation in people’s homes’.
Cllr Carol Benson expressed her delight that funds have been allocated specifically to help reduce flood risks in the villages, adding that the news will be welcomed by everyone locally.
Cllr Benson has worked tirelessly since the election with officers at Warrington Borough Council reporting and following up on blocked gulley drains which add to the flooding by retaining surface water when not maintained.
Long serving Parish Cllrs Keith and Sue Bland added: “We are delighted that after a number of years of residents and ourselves complaining about the flooding in the Churchill Ave area, funding has finally been made available for the renewal of the Churchill Ave, Culcheth Culvert. Hopefully this will alleviate the flooding around the roundabout, which has really got worse over the last few years”.
The schedule of work has not been confirmed for the culvert but is expected to start later this year.
