Drink drive suspect arrested after car written off on M62 near Birchwood

A drink-drive suspect was arrested on the M62 near Birchwood earlier this morning after crashing and writing off their car, resulting in the motorway being temporarily closed.

The collision occurred on the M62 eastbound between junctions 11 and 12 at around 6:30 a.m.when rescue workers rushed to the crime scene near Warrington and Birchwood.



North West Motorway Police, attened at the scene where an alleged drink driver was involved and a car had been “written off”.
They added that the alleged drinks driver “would likely lose his driver’s license”.
No reports of serious injuries was reported, but the lanes on the motorway between Warrington East and Birchwood were closed while emergency services removed the vehicle.
Shortly before 8 a.m., the remaining lanes were released again.
A North West Motorway Police spokesperson posted on social media: “Lane 1 on the M62 EB between J11 and J12 is currently closed due to another drunk driver having an accident.
“Car is a depreciation that is likely to lose your driver’s license which could affect your employment! Is it really worth it? # Fatal5”.
In another incident during the eraly hour sof this morning the driver of a Vauxhall was fortunate not to lose everything after smashing into the only thing separating them and the Manchester Ship Canal!
The driver was arrested and taken into custody to sober up in a cell.
