New look Appleton Parish Council bids fond farewell to 135 years of experience

A new look Appleton Parish Council has bid a fond farewell to 135 years of valuable experience after the recent Local Elections.

Appleton Parish Council had an uncontested election in May 2021 and the following Parish Councillors will serve for three years.



Councillor Mark Browne, Councillor Simon Brookes, Councillor Ghazala Chapman, Councillor Kenneth Critchley, Councillor Cecilia Critchley, Councillor Joanne Freeman, Councillor Mark Jervis, Councillor Peter Lewenz, Councillor Matthew Marshall, Councillor Peter Walker and Councillor Judith Wheeler.
Councillor Bill Kidley was co-opted on to the Parish Council at its meeting on 15 June 2021. There is still one vacant seat and a Notice of a Vacancy has been issued by Warrington Borough Council.
Councillor Ken Critchley, Conservative, has been elected as Chair of the Parish Council for twelve months.
The three Conservative Ward Councillors for Appleton on Warrington Borough Council are Councillor Ghazala Chapman, Councillor Kenneth Critchley and Councillor Mark Jervis.
The following Parish Councillors retired from the Parish Council after 135 years of valuable service to the Parish between them all: Councillor Ken Arnett (13 years). Councillor Brian Axcell (31 years), Councillor Irina Axcell (9 years), Councillor Sandra Benger (21 years), Councillor John Price (31 years), Councillor Rod Johnson (1 year), Councillor Gary Skentlebery, (3 years) and Councillor Judith Walker (26 years).
The Parish Council continues to be represented on and contribute to the South Warrington Parishes Liaison Group and liaises with representatives from the Inland Border Facility at Appleton Thorn and HMP Thorn Cross.
The Parish Council works closely with St Cross Church and is planning a centenary to commemorate the dedication of the War Memorial in November 1921.
The Parish Council hope to be reopening the Parish Hall library soon. The Cobbs Book Swap in the phone box on Bridge Lane still proves very popular and we have a new one in the bus shelter at Wrights Green. The Parish Hall garden is undergoing improvements and the planters on Bridge Lane have been planted for the summer season. The Parish Council is also arranging to paint the green bus shelter on Bridge Lane and has purchased two larger replacement bins at Hillcliffe and at Appleton Reservoir.
At its meeting on 15 June 2021, the Parish Council awarded a grant of £2500 to the Lumb Brook Millennium Green
