Burglars cause serious damage at RSPCA clinic

BURGLARS who broke into a building used by Warrington, Halton and St Helens RSPCA caused serious damage.

The building in Runcorn is used as a veterinary clinic but is currently closed because of the Covid lockdown.
It normally provides reduced price vet treatment for residents of the RSPCA catchment area who are in need of it.
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: “Offering this service means families can keep their beloved pets at home, and they still get the treatment needed to keep them happy and healthy. Thankfully, nothing was taken by the intruders, although both the building and the inside was badly damaged.
“We don’t know why we’ve been targeted, but we’re disappointed that the community outreach of a small local charity would be hurt in this way. Despite this, we’d like to say a huge thank you to the police responders, and the expert contractors who have fixed the worst of the outside damage and will be helping us restore the building.
”They expect the clean up inside and related admin will take hours of staff and volunteer time. This is especially hard at a time when resources are already stretched to their limit through lockdown restrictions.
“If you can support the branch at this difficult time, please donate to the work of RSPCA Warrington, Halton and St Helens through their JustGiving page, or give £5 by texting DOGSANDCATS to 70450 (texts cost £5 plus one standard rate message)
