WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter has welcomed the “excellent” EU Trade deal announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson today.

The long-awaited trade deal between the UK and the EU has been struck on Christmas Eve, just days before the deadline.
The treaty will apply from 1 January 2021 and take over from the arrangements under the transition period, which has seen the UK continue to follow most EU rules since Brexit day.
Announcing the news Mr Johnson said beating coronavirus was his “number one national priority” so he wanted to “end any extra uncertainty” by giving the country “the best possible chance of bouncing back strongly” next year.

Commenting on EU Trade deal Mr Carter, who was originally in the remain camp, said: “This is very welcome news.
“We have concluded our negotiations with the EU on our future relationship – and from everything I’ve seen, we’ve secured an excellent deal for the United Kingdom, which fully delivers on what the British people voted for both in the referendum and the last election.
“As the PM promised, this deal takes back control of our laws, borders, money, trade and fisheries – and it ends any role for the European Court. From 1st January 2021, the United Kingdom will have political and economic independence – and we will thrive as a country now fully outside the European Union.
“Parliament is being recalled on December 30th and we will enter the New Year as a fully sovereign nation. 2021 will be our opportunity to show what Global Britain means to the rest of the world: striking trade deals with new markets, reasserting ourselves as a liberal and free trading nation; and acting as a force for good in the world.”
