WARRINGTON Borough Council Chief Executive Steven Broomhead is appealing to the public to “follow the basics” as COVID-19 infections and hospital admissions continue to rise steeply in the town as another 136 new cases have been confirmed.

One more patient has sadly died at Warrington & Halton Hospital in the past 24 hours while a total of 136 (126) new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Warrington in the latest daily updates from Public Health England – the largest number since the start of the outbreak.
The total number of confirmed cases in Warrington since March is now 3,215 (3,079). The seven day average as of October 1 was 80 (73.7).
Professor Broomhead, said: “The case numbers are clearly a concern for us all in Warrington and we need to do all we can to help protect our loved ones by sticking to the rules.
“Following the basics is still essential – we need to be focused on continuing to keep our distance from other people, maintaining excellent hand hygiene and wearing a cloth face-covering where appropriate. And if you have any symptoms of coronavirus, however mild, book a test and self-isolate as soon as possible.
“The regional picture looks challenging and the number of hospital admissions is rising steeply. We need to stay absolutely committed to the mind-set of being cautious and not taking any risks with our health, and the health of those who are close to us.”
