WARRINGTON Rylands 1906 romped to victory in the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round recording their first ever win the competition inflicting a 6-1 defeat on 1874 Northwich at Townfield Lane.

A much closer game was anticipated between the teams who occupied the top two spots in the NWCFL Premier Division table when the 2019/20 season was aborted. Playing their first competitive game since March a well organized hard working Rylands outfit dominated from the kick-off punishing their opponents with a display of clinical finishing.
Rylands opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when 1874 goalkeeper Tony Aghayere failed to hold onto a powerfully struck Kane Drummond shot allowing the ball to fall to Ste Milne who hammered it into the net.
Debutant Milne doubled his side’s advantage five minutes later, cutting inside from the left wing he held off a challenge from 1874 defender Mark Jones before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Rylands had a strong penalty claim turned down on the half-hour, but the referee pointed to the spot ten minutes later when Drummond was felled. Aghayere saved Milne’s penalty but could not prevent Andy Scarisbrick from netting the rebound.

Nine minutes into the second half Milne turned provider setting up Drummond to score from close range. Moments later Drummond was denied a second goal by a last-ditch tackle by Matt Russell as he was about to shoot with the goal at his mercy.
1874, who had posed little threat to the Rylands goalkeeper Graeme McCall’s involvement in the first half being limited to catching two hopeful crosses into the box, pulled a goal back in the 66th minute. Taylor Kennerley met a Scott McGowan cross at the far post to slam the ball home.
Scarisbrick restored Rylands four goal lead two minutes later rounding the keeper to slot the ball into the net. Ten minutes later Milne completed his hat trick drilling home his second penalty of the evening after Aghayere had brought down Drummond.
In the closing stages both goalkeepers pulled off good saves, McCall saving well to keep out a Jack Irlam shot and Aghayere denying Elliot Morris.
