Marathon effort as teenage girls raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research

LYMM High School friends Lydia Keeley and Holly Matthews both aged 15, suddenly announced to their startled parents that they planned to walk a marathon ‘on Saturday’.

Without wanting to squash their enthusiasm, both sets of parents said that walking a marathon without any training whatsoever and without any walking boots was perhaps a little ambitious!
The girls would not be dissuaded… they were determined to prove them all wrong and so set off on a very rainy Saturday 18th July at 8.15am.
Their route took them to Knutsford, around the country lanes of High Legh and Lymm and ended some 26.2 miles and 9 hours 22 mins later in Grapenhall.
They had lots of fun along the way in spite of the weather (it rained all day) but did admit to the last three or four miles being tough.

However, the constant text updates to tell them how much money they were raising for Cancer Research kept them going. To date, the girls have raised over £1000 with gift aid and the total is still going up!
Both families are immensely proud of their determination and achievement …. they definitely showed their parents that you can do anything if you want to enough.
