CHESHIRE Wildlife Trust is appealing to people across the county to show restrain if they go into the country this weekend.
Last weekend, the fine weather tempted thousands of people – including some from Warrington – to seek an escape from Lockdown by going into the countryside – including nature reserves.
As a result there were wildfires, littering and disturbance to wildlife
Among the problems were:
* Portable BBQs and discarded campfires
* Swimming in lakes and reservoirs which are not safe to swim in
* Antisocial behaviour – including littering, using wild places as outdoor toilets and vandalism.
Charlotte Harris, chief executive of Cheshire Wildlife Trust, said:
“Our nature reserves are local havens for wildlife and people to enjoy, safely and respectfully. We must remember that they’re home to a number of different species, some on the brink of local extinction. We’re appealing to everyone to love and look after it.”
The Wildlife Trust is asking everyone to
* Avoid BBQs and fires
* Take all litter home
* Keep dogs on leads and pick up dog mess
* Park considerately
Cheshire Wildlife Trust has been acting as a voice for wildlife for more than 50 years. working across Warrington, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wirral, they manage more than 30 nature reserves.
