Dad pens moving song of hope during dark times

VIDEO: A Warrington dad who works for a company researching vaccines for Covid-19 and is married to a keyworker nurse, has penned a moving ballad inspired by the fallout of the Coronavirus crisis and lockdown in the UK.

After seeing the challenges and difficult times his family and friends were going through, Daniel Black, felt compelled to write a song that captured the hope and strength he wanted to share with them.
‘This Too Shall Pass’ was borne out of worrying times and challenging changes that have been brought on by the lockdown in the UK.
The Grappenhall based dad said: “I tried to see the love and happy moments being created despite the restrictions. My wife is a nurse and keyworker so I know how important it is to keep positive and hopeful at this time. It’s incredible, you can see it everywhere, neighbours dropping off food for each other, checking in with elderly relatives, creating memories with their families and sharing special moments in such dark times.
“There’s a recognition of the amazing key workers, the people who are keeping our country and lives going, sometimes at a cost to their own health and family life. This is my way of trying say that this isn’t forever. We have hope and together we can get through this to happier times.”

Daniel, dad to seven-year-old Robin, has been writing songs for as long as he can remember, and he regularly records music from his home studio in a corner of his house.
“Having got my first keyboard at the age of seven, I rebelled against my piano lessons – I just wanted to create.
“I was lucky to find great albums very early. My mum’s vinyl collection pretty much consisted of Michael Jackson, Queen and Elton John. Elton’s early 1970-1975 albums in particular set me on the path that I’ve been on ever since. The perfect blend of soul, country, pop and blues with a weave of orchestration all wrapped up by a great song is where I feel at home.
“My other musical hero is Randy Newman who sits in a very distinct camp in my own my mind. His music keeps on enlightening and confusing me in a way that I need to keep listening to try and work out why.
“Some of my proudest achievements include being the youngest person at 18 to be invited into the Ivors Academy (the champion of music creators).
“My music being played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium (my other love) at every home game, and also now being a husband and a dad.”
