MEMBERS of Lymm Rotary Club made donations to help support two local organisations during the coronavirus pandemic following their first ever virtual meeting.

Like many other groups Lymm Rotary Club can no longer hold weekly meetings at Statham Lodge Hotel. But with help from their youngest member, the Club now hosts a video conference on Wednesday evenings using the Zoom app.
Normally, the Club would be at the forefront of efforts to assist the community but sadly, most of our members are in “Lockdown” and are limited to offering help by telephone or e-mails.
At the first of the new meetings, the Club decided to support the Warrington Foodbank with a donation of £500 in recognition of the excellent service they provide.
The Club also decided to support the Lymm Sanctuary Hub Memory Café, whose members had attended the club earlier in the year to explain how it operates. With the Café also in Lockdown, members are keeping in touch with users by mail and providing further support by telephone calls to those who welcome them. A donation of £200 will help with the cost of a jigsaw and postal costs to date. Around Half of this sum will be used to purchase Memory Boxes which attendees can fill with items from the past, postcards, pictures, green shield stamps etc.

President Alan Edwards said, “We are delighted to be able to assist local organisations at this difficult time. WE are also researching ways in which we can assist with running costs for local groups who are making masks and other PPE for essential users”.
