A Penketh woman is set to embark on a virtual conquest to climb to the summit of mount Everest in her own home in aid of St Rocco’s Hospice.
Stacey Higgins-Martin, aged 34, has been a supporter, community volunteer and fundraiser for St Rocco’s Hospice for more than 15 years since the passing of her Grandad.
She has taken part in many half marathons, a sky dive, bag packing and even being a contestant on Strictly St Rocco’s back in 2017 when she broke her wrist during the process!
Now, starting on Monday (April 27) and finishing on Friday (May 1) she will be climbing to the Summit of Everest on her own staircase – 58,070 stairs to be precise!
She anticipates she will have to do six hours a day to complete the task.
Stacey said: “I have 12 stairs, so will need to climb up them 4840 times, not including going back down after every flight .. in the hope to raise just a little bit of money along to way and help in anyway
I can.
“All of us have been affected by Covid 19 in one way or another, the hospice included. As a charity they rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the Warrington Community.
It costs £3.5million in fundraising and donations alone to keep the doors open. Due to Covid 19 they are set to lose circa £1 million in 2020, putting a strain on their resources and in turn the care they can provide to patients and their loved ones.
She has started her own fundraising page and has already raised over £600.
