Council launches business relief to tackle COVID-19 crisis

WARRINGTON Borough Council has announced it is taking pro-active steps to help support local businesses through the Coronavirus COVID-19 crisis.

With the government announcing a number of measures to support business Warrington Borough Council is now in a position to launch this to Warrington businesses.

Working with key partners, the council is taking pro-active steps from today to ensure that Warrington businesses are linked with the appropriate level of support they are entitled to, as outlined by the Chancellor.

The first positive action the council is taking is to award the Small Business Grant and Cash Grant for Retail, Hospitality & Leisure to companies across the borough. This will provide a one-off grant of either £10,000 or £25,000 for eligible businesses to help meet their ongoing operational costs.

The Council acknowledges that many businesses need this urgently and will be utilising emergency funds to start the process from next week.

Additional initiatives are currently being readied. The council has launched a quick and simple online form for businesses to complete at warrington.gov.uk/coronavirusgrant. This will allow the council to recognise and connect with businesses located in Warrington and to provide the latest information as soon as it is available.

The council is also working with the Cheshire & Warrington Business Growth Hub who have a variety of practical services to help you through these challenging times.

Warrington Borough Council Leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “Warrington is a thriving business town, and we are committed to doing everything we can to help protect and serve your business during these unprecedented times.

“That’s why we are pro-actively starting the process to ensure our businesses get the financial assistance and guidance they so desperately need. We want to ensure that you are receiving round-the-clock support and the right information to help you, your business, your workforce and the wider Warrington community that you serve.”

Cllr Tom Jennings, Chair of the Supporting the Local Economy Committee, said: “As a small business owner myself, I know exactly how you’re feeling – the uncertainty, the anxiety and the unknown. These are difficult and challenging times – however, we are committed to doing everything we can to support your business.

“By unlocking quick access to vital grants and providing a range of information, guidance and support, we can make a huge difference to local businesses. It’s about working together with you and giving you the tools you need to get through this crisis.”
