Heat wave causes grass fire on farmland

FIRE crews were called to a blaze on agricultural land at Warrington.
The blaze was in a farmer’s field off Winwick Lane, Croft and involved an area of grass measuring about 20 metres by 10 metres.
A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire, believed to have been triggered by the heat wave,  and the crews then damped down the area to prevent further outbreaks.
They were at the scene for about half-an-hour.
