Potholes make Parkrun path hazardous

POTHOLES are making Warrington’s popular Victoria Parkrun hazardous for those taking part.
A few weeks ago a runner fell in one hole and sustained cuts and bruises.
Now former chairman of Warrington Athletic Club Geoff Settle – one of the volunteers who turn out to organise the weekly Saturday morning runs – has written to the borough council asking for the holes to be filled in.
He said: “The Victoria Parkrun is one of the best supported events in the UK Parkrun series, helping to keep participants physically and mentally healthier.
“Numbers taking part have risen to well over 600 on occasions – helped by a flat course, great organisation and excellent encouragement from volunteers.”
The former Mayor of Warrington  said the leader of the borough council Russ Bowden and his deputy, Cathy Mitchell, had taken part in the run. The Archdeacon of St Helens and Warrington, the Venerable Roger Preece, had also taken part.
GP practices were also sending patients to take part to improve their fitness.
But Mr Settle now has concerns about the deteriorating condition of the first 80 meters of the path which is full of potholes.
He claims it is almost two years since he asked the park manager to repair the surface. Potholes were filled in, but have now reappeared, due to bad weather.
