CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service held an event to celebrate the volunteers who give up their free time to support them.
The event, which fell within National Volunteers Week, was an opportunity for the service to thank those dedicated and selfless individuals who help keep Cheshire safe.
Certificates were handed out to volunteers by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Gus O’Rourke.
The evening also saw long service awards handed out, with some volunteers recognised for their dedication over an incredible 20 years to the service.
A special mention went to one volunteer Chris Harrop from Lymm, who has accumulated an amazing 11,195 hours over the past seven years as part of the post fire support team.
He said: “I feel a real sense of fulfilment supporting the local community and firefighters, I really appreciate the service taking their time to bring all the volunteers together and recognise our commitment.
“I feel really proud to volunteer for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and give something back to my community. You can make a real difference to the community by volunteering and I would recommend it to anybody.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Gus O’Rourke said: “It gives me immense pride to see the dedication our volunteers bring to help keep the public of Cheshire safe, and give them the appreciation they deserve.
“It is really important to me to recognise the amazing contribution from both members of the public and serving Fire Service colleagues bring to the Service, and what better way to do that than by bringing them all together, and saying thank you in person.
“It was fantastic to meet so many inspiring individuals at the event and hear their motivational stories about the volunteering work they have been involved in. Our volunteers really do make a vital difference to our communities, and I cannot express my gratitude enough for the commitment they give to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.”
The service has a number of roles currently available, such as a Cadet Leader, Heritage Team Member, Road Safety Volunteer and many more.
