Crematorium’s annual service of remembrance

WARRINGTON’S Walton Lea Crematorium will hold its annual Service of Remembrance later this month.
Entitled “Death through the ages, Death Matters” – the service, which takes place on June 23, challenges the notion that death comes only to the very old, and instead, it can take our loved ones at any age.
During the service – which will be led by Canon Christopher Cunningham and assisted by fellow Warrington clergy – coloured and tied ribbons will be collected by attendees, and a rainbow of biodegradable memorial balloons released.
Reactions to bereavement will be traced, and as ever, the event will not avoid the difficult matters associated with grief.  Crematorium staff will share in the reading of reflections, and a range of styles of music played.
The service is a widely supported annual event in Warrington’s calendar. All are welcome to the service, all faiths and none, which will be held in the open-air, weather permitting.
The borough council’s lead member for environment and public protection, Cllr Judith Guthrie, said: “Losing a loved one is very painful and can have a huge impact on your life. The remembrance service is an opportunity for people to come together, remember those they have lost and celebrate their lives.”
The service will start at 3pm at the crematorium in Chester Road, Higher Walton.
