MORE than 1,500 people have signed a petition opposing proposed developments by Eddie Stobart and Langtree and Panattoni on Green Belt land in South Warrington.

The online petition was launched just over a week ago by the Rethinking South Warrington’s Future (RSWF) group which is calling on Warrington Borough Council’s Development Management Committee (DMC) to refuse planning permission for both the Stobart’s and Langtree’s Six/56 developments.

The large scale logistic developments are earmarked for 346,000m sq of South Warrington’s Green Belt land – the equivalent to 54 Wembleys.

Objectors say this will It will result in thousands of additional vehicular movements on already overloaded roads and surrounding motorways.

Air pollution in Warrington is one of the worst in the UK, in particular the most dangerous small particulates (PM2.5).

A spokesperson for the group said: “This is a legacy that we must not pass on to our children and future generations.

“RSWF will use this petition to hand over when each application comes before the DMC. Please sign this petition to make your objection clear and share widely.”

Objectors have until 5pm Friday (May 31) to register opposition to the Stobart Planning application.

    • If caring for you whole town is being a NIMBY I will wear that title as a badge of honour!
The Green Belt provides oxygen for the whole of Warrington.
40k people a year are dying from pollution related illnesses across the country.
Yes we need affordable homes for our young people but developers are highly unlikely to build realistically priced homes on prime green belt they have paid top dollar for.
Unemployment is low in Warrington and not enough people to fill existing driving jobs.
I think your comments are completely uncalled for and less than helpful and almost come across as sour grapes.
Everyone needs to be united with one voice to take on the issues we all face with this proposed local plan

Air pollution in Warrington is some of the worst in the UK. We are surrounded by motorways and because of our unique geography and infrastructure, we have a lot of standing traffic. It makes no sense to build a major logistics hub which is almost totally dependent on HGV’s burning diesel. The last thing we need is to bet our town’s future economy on an industry that is does so much damage to our environment. Are low paid jobs worth more than our towns health?
