MORE than £30,000 has been raised for charity by the 12 Lymm Runners who ran this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon.

One team member, James Williams, ran the marathon in a full snowboarder kit whilst carrying a 5kg board and managed to set a new world record.

James said: ‘‘Who needs nails on their big toes when I have a Guinness World Record? I now hold the record for fastest Marathon Dressed as a Snowboarder in 5 hours, 21 minutes and 50 seconds….’’ This is 24 minutes faster than the previous record.

James also beat his target of £1,650 by raising over £2,000 for the Round Table Children’s Wish Charity, for this attempt.

Though less flamboyant, the other runners also raised significant sums for their chosen charities totalling an excess of £30,000. All finished safely, with Jonathan Smith first home in a terrific 2hrs, 39 mins 04 secs, setting a new Club Record Three other runners also achieved Personal Bests.

First Timer Karen Philpotts with her medal

Lymm Runner First Timer Karen Philpotts summed up the feeling on taking part and reaching that finishing line:

‘I just wanted to thank Lymm Runners for the opportunity to have one of the club ballot places for the London Marathon. Such an amazing experience and Lymm Runners kept popping up on the course throughout the day. Note to anyone else doing this in the future you will need to train your face muscles as my cheeks are aching from all the smiling.’
