Art – Until Saturday 2 March 2019 (All Day) – Warrington Art Treasures: The National Picture

This is the third in a series of exhibitions celebrating landmark events in the history of the oldest public museum in the North West. Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is joining forces with National Museums Liverpool by borrowing three fantastic works – Enrico Coleman’s Oxen Drawing a Block of Stone to the Studio of John Warrington Wood and Sir Luke Fildes’ A Portrait of Fanny Fildes and The Widower.

Warrington Herstories tells the tales of 21 women with connections to the town – women who have made astounding achievements, shown insurmountable compassion to others or simply dared to be different. From writers to poets, social and political campaigners to natural historians, entertainers, doctors and even the odd criminal, these feisty females rivalled their male counterparts to contradict the widely-held perception that “it’s a man’s world”.

Exhibition – Until Saturday 4 May 2019 (All Day) – Peace at Last

Peace at Last is the final instalment in a series of exhibitions to commemorate World War One.  Visitors will discover what life was like for soldiers returning home from the horrors of war and how life for Warrington’s inhabitants changed for ever. The exhibition will include research collected by local history groups.

Art – Until Saturday 19 January 2019 (All Day) – Stanley Lench

Discover the story of forgotten artist Stanley Lench (1934 – 2000) with this fascinating exhibition. Co-curated by Stanley’s lifelong friend David Trowbridge, this remarkable collection charts the artist’s development through portraits of silent screen stars, playwrights, musicians, and other 1960s icons, as well as a selection of drawings and paintings of fantasy figures, and early portraits of his family.

Workshop – Saturday 1 December 2018 (All Day) – Archaeological Finds Identification Day

Amateur archaeologists are being called to bring in their treasure as part of the museum’s Archaeological Finds Identification Day. This fantastic opportunity allows members of the public to have any archaeological discoveries officially identified and recorded. Finds can include objects that are made of metal, flint and pottery that are more than 300 years old. Please bring along a grid reference or details of the object find spot.
