Pete’s Swiss Peaks challenge raised £1,600

A WARRINGTON man has raised more than £1,600 for charity World Child Cancer by completing the gruelling Swiss Peaks Challenge.
Pete Ackerley, from Callands, spent six months training for the challenge which pushed his mental and physical endurance to the limit.
The money will now go to support children with cancer, and their families, in nine programmes across Africa, Asia and Central America.
Mr Ackerley, associate finance director at Galliford Try Partnerships, took part in the challenge which involved an endurance race climbing 18,400 feet – the equivalent of scaling two thirds of the way up Mount Everest – and covering 90km in a gruelling 23 hours.
Afterwards he said: “I knew this race would be tough and after 23 hours of running I was very pleased to see the finish line! Knowing what this donation will mean to the charity made it all worth it; and I want to thank everyone who donated to this fantastic cause, especially my colleagues at Galliford Try Partnerships who have supported me throughout.
“The fundraising page is still open and I would ask people to give what they can to make sure World Child Cancer can carry on their work across the globe.”
World Child Cancer is the company’s charity for the year and the aim is to raise £50K nationally, with the North West office aiming to contribute more than £5,000.
Mr Ackerley’s achievements in finishing the Swiss Peaks Challenge takes the firm a step closer to this goal.
