Canaries on tour plan next protest walk

CAMPAIGNERS opposing development of green belt land in South Warrington are planning a peaceful protest walk along the Trans Pennine Trial at Grappenhall next Sunday (Sept 23).

One of the organisers of “Canaries on tour” Helen Gumani said: “One year on since the first Trail walk…What do we know ?… not much more!

“No decision on PDO, greenspace already being lost for good during all the dithering, possible connecting ‘Stretton Bypass’ on the cards…

“Warrington borough Council need to know we are still here.

“The answer’s still no! The trail is not for sale.”

She is urging all residents of Grappenhall, Thelwall and Latchford, all users of the Trans Pennine Trail and anyone who cares to protect Warrington’s green spaces from excess development to attend the walk, which will be from Bradshaw Lane entrance up to Halfacre Lane bridge and back.

The walk is due to start at 1.30pm, reach Halfacre and turn round by 2.00pm -finish back at Bradshaw by 2.30pm

Walkers from Latchford/Lymm may chose to extend their walks to tag onto either end at the appropriate times.

Helen added: “Please bring children, dogs, bikes under supervision. Folks on mobility scooters should be able to work out a section over which they can participate.

“WA4 Tshirts and Placards will be available near the start for anyone who’d like to use them.”
