Carden: Yellows did enough to win the game

WARRINGTON Town manager Paul Carden says his side did enough to win the game as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Stalybridge Celtic.

After hitting three past Lancaster City in midweek, the Yellows drew a blank for a second successive home game, with Tony Gray and Richard Brodie both missing guilt-edged chances in the second half.

Gray had the best one, ghosting on to a brilliant cross by Ben Garrity and drawing a top class save by ‘keeper Jack Turner.

Carden said: “We had enough chances in the second half to win the game. Their keeper made a great save, we had more opportunities, a couple of one and ones and we’ve not punished them.

“They clearly came to set up and either nick something on the break or settle for the draw, you could see that from their ‘keeper delaying goal kicks early on.

“Can we play better? Yes. Did we do enough to win the game? Yes.

“It’s a tough one to take. Last season we lost this one, so it’s a positive on that, and it was a good clean sheet, but we shouldn’t have dropped two points really.”

Carden was also pleased by substitutes Brodie and Dylan Vassallo, who has been told to prove he deserves a future at the club.

He added: “Brodes looked a threat, he probably should have scored two. He’s always going to give you that goal threat. I haven’t brought him here to be a sub, he knows that, and he looks like he wants to score a goal, and he will score goals for us.

“Today was more like the Dylan we know. It’s been a long time coming, even if it was just for 15-20 minutes.

“He created that chance for Brodes with an unbelievable pass and then was close to getting on the end of Brodes’ cross come shot later on.

“He had a real purpose about him and hopefully he can take that in to the rest of the games.

“You never want to give up on somebody who’s got ability like him but there comes a point where you can’t keep saying the same things. He knows that, he’s been told in no uncertain terms that he has to produce.

“The simplest thing he can do is give everything he’s got, because if he does, something will break and he’ll able to show his ability.

“If he runs as hard as he can, he can be unbelievable for us as he proved at times last season in different positions.”
