Cross-party group launches street quiz on Brexit

A NEW cross-party campaign group has been out on the streets of Warrington finding out what people think about Brexit.
Warrington 4EU was launched when Appleton resident David Myall got a group of local people together to discuss the Brexit situation – and within days the group was formed.
Since then the group has been out and about asking people for their views and whether the final deal should be put to the people in a new referendum.
Mr Myall said: “In the 2016 advisory referendum Warrington voted ‘Leave’ by 54 per cent, but both Leave and Remain voters are unhappy with the way Brexit is going.
“The election in 2017 saw Warrington remove the government Minister David Mowatt as MP, and opinion polls have shown growing support for a ‘People’s Vote’ on the final deal once the terms are known.”
Another group member, Lymm campaigner Graham Gowland said: “We’re asking for Warrington Council to undertake a proper Brexit impact assessment, and if Brexit will damage Warrington, to support a ‘People’s Vote’, in line with other towns and cities throughout the country.”
Trish Cockayne is another local campaigner who has joined the group, and she added: “We’ve really seen a change of heart from so many people, and the message to Parliament is that the deal it looks like we’re getting isn’t what anyone voted for, and as more facts are coming out about the leave campaign, it’s clear the people need a vote on the final terms – with an option to ‘remain’.”
The group is planning a range of events to keep the public informed, from street stalls, social events and rallies.
