The family of Cllr Allin Dirir have invited people to attend a celebration of his life.

Following his sad death  from a stroke, his family have asked people who knew the former Mayor’s Consort to join them at Walton Hall at 11:30am on Thursday August 2.

Taking place after a private family funeral, this will take the form of lunch, followed by the chance to share experiences and reflect upon the man’s life and deeds.

Daughter Leila Dirir broke the sad news on the Penketh Community Facebook page writing: “Many of you knew Dad, a wonderful warm hearted man who loved everyone he met irrespective of cultural, religious or political differences. He loved everyone.

“From humble beginnings in a rural village in Somaliland he came here in 1962 to study at Lancaster University and from then worked every day of his working life to provide a life for himself and his family. After years of charity work in 1990 he decided to dedicate his life to his community in Penketh and that is where his service began as a parish councillor. He has given years to his community from organising Penketh Carnival, dealing with issues from his constituents to various other big campaigns over that time. He loved every minute of it and was so proud to serve the people who elected him.

“We are still in shock at what has happened and we know and hope the people of Penketh will be respectful in their response to this. He loved this village so much.

“For those of you who knew him you will know he was unique and something special. His tweed waistcoats, dickie bows and big smile will be hugely missed. We will be left with a huge void in our lives from this point forward .He leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife of almost 50 years, (my Mother, Linda) and his children Adam ,Sareda, Sophia and myself. We are all simply heartbroken.

“If anyone wishes to attend the funeral the details will be available in due course and if anyone has any nice memories of Dad that they would like to share we would love to hear them to ease the pain of our loss.

“Rest in Peace Dad .”

Many people took the chance to pass on condolences and share their memories of Cllr Dirir who had become a pillar of the local community.

Cllr Amanda King said: “RIP peace beautiful Allin, you are and were a beautiful man, father, teacher, councillor and so much more. Your impact on life and people will never be forgotten. God bless”

Cllr Les Morgan said:”My good friend Allin Dirir is and will be sadly missed by the many that loved him. He had a great passion for his family – friends and the community that he represented . I first got to know this lovely man when we were campaigning for Linda to become a borough councillor and I instantly recognised that here was a true and genuine man that really cared. We had many serious conversations over the years and when Allin learned that I could speak Arabic we had some great fun when folks roundabout wondered what the heck we were saying. I could go on much longer talking about this lovely,  lovely man but I’ll just live with my many – many memories. My sincere condolences go Linda and the family.”
“Goodby Old Friend. Marsalam.”

The family have requested that should you wish, in lieu of flowers, in memorial donations may be made on the day to the Somaliland New Dawn Trust

  1. What a wonderful genuine gentlleman he was and it was a pleasure for my family to know him and my daughters to have grown up with his son and daughters, not forgetting his supporting wife Linda who helped Allin to overcome his worn out knees.
