Police accredited as a “Living Wage” employer

CHESHIRE Constabulary has been officially accredited as a Living Wage Employer by the Living Wage Foundation charity.
The commitment will see everyone working for the force, regardless of whether they are direct employees or third-party contracted staff, receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.75.
The rate is higher than the Government’s statutory minimum for over 25s of £7.50 per hour, which was introduced in April last year
The real Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. It is calculated according to the real costs of living and employers choose to pay the real Living Wage on a voluntary basis.
Acting Chief Constable Janette McCormick said: “We are proud to be an organisation which has now been accredited as a Living Wage Employer.
“This illustrates the commitment we have to our officers and staff in ensuring we pay salaries which meet the cost of living in the UK.
“It also demonstrates that we are always working to ensure we are an employer of choice in Cheshire with the aim of attracting and retaining the best possible people for the variety of posts we have.”
Katherine Chapman, director of the Living Wage Foundation, added: “We welcome Cheshire Constabulary to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer.
“Responsible businesses across the UK are voluntarily signing up to pay the real Living Wage now. The real Living Wage rate is annually calculated to reflect the real costs of living.
“We are a movement of over 3,700 UK employers who together want to go further than the Government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.”
