Council stands “shoulder to soldier” with armed forces charity

A NEW armed forces charity has launched in Warrington – working in partnership with the borough council.
Shoulder to Soldier Armed Forces Families charity have moved into the Nora Street Community House in Fairfield and Howley.
They will work alongside “Nora Street Ladies”, who have delivered community events for local residents, including the Howley Carnival, for many years.
Shoulder to Soldier provides advice and support across the North West to Armed Forces families, and in its first successful year has supported over 120 families.
The charity already runs an allotment project in partnership with Bents Garden and Home at Glazebury.
The council’s lead member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “I am delighted to welcome Shoulder to Soldier into Nora Street to continue to grow their great work with veterans.
“We are committed to supporting the Armed Forces and recognising the vital role that they play. We are pleased to accommodate them in Nora Street community centre alongside our band of committed volunteers”.
Linda Fisher, founder of Shoulder to Soldier said: “We are excited to be working with Warrington Borough Council. The centre will provide a fantastic platform for us to continue with our important work, while at the same time focusing on the provision of a number of health and wellbeing and recreational projects in the Warrington area.
“We are looking for businesses to support our project, to make it a huge success.”
