FORMER Warrington Borough Council assistant chief executive Denis Cooper has died.

Warrington Borough Council chief executive, Steven Broomhead said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former assistant chief executive and proud Warringtonian Denis Cooper.

“Denis will be remembered within the council especially for the prominent role he played in helping the authority achieve unitary status in 1998, which allowed Warrington to act independently of the former Cheshire County Council and for his dedication to the town and its people more widely following the Warrington bombing. Denis’s wife, Joan, also worked at the council.

“He will be missed by many people and organisations in Warrington, including former colleagues who still work for the council today.”

Mr Cooper worked his way up the ranks at the town hall to become borough solicitor and then assistant chief executive. More recently he worked as a consultant at Eversheds LLP

His funeral will take place at the Hebron Church, Longford, on July 2 at 12.30pm.
