Alice’s mercy mission with the street dogs of Bali

A WARRINGTON woman travelled to Indonesia with a bagful of goodies for the street dogs of Bali.
Alice Roberts, graphic designer and publicity co-ordinator at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School asked for donations from staff at the school – and they were quick to respond.
When she arrived at BARC – Bali Dogs Adoption and Rehabilitation Centre – in Ubud, she was able to give them a big bag of toys, leads, collars, combs and even doggy toothbrushes.
Allce said: BARC is a charity that cares for the street dogs of Bali – giving them much needed care and rehabilitation. BARC aims to also raise community awareness and education about caring for street dogs.
“Some of these dogs had lived on the streets for many years and BARC take them in and work with them for as long as they need so they get back to health.
“Once the dogs have been rehabilitated, a lot of them are rehomed once they’re well, but a lot, because of their age, scars, needs or after effects left over from diseases now cured, are unwanted and they’ll probably stay at BARC for their lives.
“It struck me just how important this place is – not just for caring for the dogs but for giving a home to those who may never have had one, just because of their appearances. I was in awe of these people and the important work that they do.”

It’s not Alice’s first mercy mission abroad. Two years ago she volunteered at a slum school in India.

She is pictured below with some of the children she taught.
