Audiences wowed by “Fame” students

IT has been performed on stages across the world, but now “Fame” has wowed audiences in Warrington.
Second year students sang and danced their way through three sell-out performances of the musical as their two years at Priestley College came to an emotional end.
“I never would have thought I would sing in a show, in front of an audience, but I did for three nights and I’m honestly so proud of myself,” said Lauren Howard, who played Ms. Sherman.
Performing on an impressive set – built by the college’s production arts cohort – 25 students brought to life the iconic characters for an audience of nearly 400.
Tutor Nancy Serjeant said “Fame” was a difficult final unit in the BTEC Performing Arts.
She said: “It is challenging because it is a character-driven musical with lots of short scenes and some particularly tricky dances and songs.”
Despite its technical demands the audiences left with smiles on their faces and skips in their steps.
Terry Yates, who watched his daughter Emma perform, said: “It was very emotional as it was the last show we’ll see her in at Priestley.
“She’s made some amazing friends and the whole cast was just oozing talent. I’d like to wish them all the best of luck in whichever path they choose in life.”
Among the cast with high hopes for the future was James Smalley who will head to Italia Conti Academy in London to study Musical Theatre.
The former Great Sankey High School pupil, who played Joe, said: “The challenge in performing ‘Fame ‘was to stay in character the whole time when the musical takes place over three years.
“Something that helped was having a great set because it really brought the performance to life.”
