Helpful advice to start your own business

Starting up a new business may be daunting, challenging and time consuming. I have some tips and advice that may help you.

“The best advice I could give anyone is to spend your time working on whatever you are passionate about in life.” – Sir Richard Branson.

If you have an idea or think you can borrow (steal) someone else’s idea and do it better than them, then go for it.

Morgan Branding are certainly not the first Marketing Agency, we are also not the best… yet! However, I spotted things I thought I could do better than other companies and went for it. My thoughts were if they could make money, and I could do it better, then I can make more money… my hypothesis has yet to be proved correct, but I am working on it.

So, how do you “just do it?”.

You don’t have to rock up to work tomorrow, hand in your notice and stroll of out of the door into a better life. In fact, most businesses are created as a side project. That side project, if going well, could slowly work its way into a main project and replace your job. Alternatively, it could remain a side project, if that’s what you want, and you don’t want world domination or an Island next to Sir Richard (we can all dream right?).

So, once you’ve started it’s essential to make a plan. Now this can come in the form of a formal business plan, a plan on post it notes or something in your head, just make sure you have a plan! I don’t tend to write things down however I do know where I want to be in 1,3,5,10 and even 20 years’ time (Island next to Sir Richard) in business and in life. Some people are not planners, but I really think it’s essential to set some plans and goals for any new company so you, your staff, (if you have any) know where they are heading.

The main thing though, is WORK, nobody is an overnight success. “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”. If you go back to the quote from Sir Richard Branson, choose something you are passionate about and “going to work” will never seem like a chore again.
