Woolston – and its fascinating history – to go on show

RESIDENTS of the Woolston area will be able to learn about the history of their part of Warrington at an event on Sunday, February 25.
The New Cut Heritage and Ecology Trail group are holding their annual open day at the Alford Hall, Manchester Road, Warrington from 10am to 4pm.
There will be displays on the history of the New Cut Canal, the heritage and ecology of the area, birds, walks on local rights of way and children’s activities.
Residents of the Woolston and Martinscroft areas will be able to locate their own houses on old, historic maps – if their houses are old enough!
There will be displays by the Carbon Landscape Project, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, the Environment Agency. Latchford History Group and other local groups.
A talk on the history of Woolston and Martinscroft will be given between 12 noon and 1pm
Many old photographs will be on show and there will be a chance to learn about the amazing wildlife corridor between Paddington Bank and Woolston Weir.
