Bus company goes “contactless”

BUS company Network Warrington is introducing contactless readers on its “Connect 17” service from today.
If the trial goes to plan the company will begin rolling out the system across its network.
The number 17 connects Gemini retail park with Birchwood Park via the town centre. From Monday passengers will be able to purchase tickets using contactless payment methods.
Network Warrington managing director Ben Wakerley said: “We want to make local bus travel as swift and as easy as possible for passengers, and buying a ticket doesn’t come much easier than with a contactless card. It’s quick, it’s easy and it’s secure – just look for the contactless symbol on your card to see if you can make contactless payments.”
This latest development follows the recent announcement of the introduction of a new, cutting-edge bus fleet, featuring modern public transport “essentials” such as WiFi and USB charging points for the
“Cheshire Cat” south Warrington service.
Full improvements and changes to the south network will be unveiled at a public roadshow on Wednesday February 28 at Sandy Lane community centre at Stockton Heath. The roadshow will give residents the chance to comment on the south Warrington service changes before they are officially
confirmed.
