Strong winds and floods warning as Storm Eleanor arrives

THE Met Office has issued a Yellow Warning for strong winds in the Warrington area as Storm Eleanor arrives in the area around 6pm tonight.

Flooding is also possible as the high winds coincide with high tides on the Mersey.

Public transport may be disrupted or cancelled and some bridges are likely to be closed as winds peak around 50mph.

The warning stays in force until 6pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Power cuts and disruption to other services such as mobile phones may also occur, while injuries from flying debris are possible. Combined with a period of high tides, it is likely that some western coastal communities will be affected by large waves and spray.

There is a chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves, or beach material being thrown on to seafronts and coastal properties.

The Environment Agency has warned of possible flood of properties at Arpley Bridge, Bank Quay, Eastford Road, the Spectra Business Park in Slutchers Lane and in Victoria Park in Knutsford Road.

High tide is shortly after midnight and the danger period continues until around 1.30am

There is another danger period around midday tomorrow.
