Ex-boxer Andy sets a new world record

WARRINGTON based personal trainer Andy Bretherton has set a new world record for one mile of burpee broadjumps.
The former professional boxer knocked four minutes off the existing record of one hour 20 minutes.
Andy, who owns Fighting Fit gym on the Palatine estate at Warrington, made the bid to raise money for Macmillan Nurses and Duchene Muscular Dystrophy research.
A burpee broad jump involves a squat thrust, a press up and a broad jump and is one of the most difficult, strenuous exercises, dreaded by even very fit people.
A very fit athlete would struggle to do 50 of them.
Andy completed a mile of them at Victoria Park in one hour 16 minutes – doing about 1,500 jumps.
He said: “I wanted to really challenge myself and take myself out of my comfort zone by tackling everyone’s dreaded exercise and do something few people could do.
“My experience as a personal trainer is that we as human beings are a lot stronger than we imagine, and with hard work and dedication we can achieve most things in life. That’s my teaching philosophy for everyone who comes to Fighting Fit and it’s how top athletes succeed.
“Just completing the mile of burpees  was an achievement in itself – the last lap was brutal. But I was estatic to beat the record. This is  physically and mentally the most challenging thing I have done, I really had to dig deep and couldn’t of done it without everyone’s support.
I ’m happy to have raised almost £2,000 – a fantastic amount – for the charities.”
Andy is now hoping his achievement will get in the official record books.
