Stockton Heath swing bridge sticks again

2

THE Stockton Heath swing bridge has stuck again, causing traffic chaos in the local area.

Traffic piled up on local roads in the area, with some residents stuck for more than half an hour on Ellesmere Road, with some giving up on making their journey.

The bridge jammed at rush hour. Pedestrians were allowed to cross the bridge from around 18.00 and it was eventually re-opened to traffic at about 18.50.

Workers had to manually close the bridge which had opened to let a container ship through.

Peel Ports have previously said a routine maintenance and repair programme is in place across all of its sites.

A similar problem occurred last April with another incident in summer 2015.

  1. The traffic was a nightmare and at a standstill grrr !! The large container ship then stopped part way between Stockton Heath and Walton/Chester Road swing bridge for ages and only moved on at about 7.30pm so presumably there was also a problem with the Walton bridge too.
Come on Peel Holdings…get to grips with maintaining our swing bridges please like they USED to be maintained. Surely problems like this can’t be just due to the sunny weather heat as I never remember them breaking down so much years ago.

  2. they never get stuck in the closed position on a regular basis. No shipping up and down the canal for a few days and they would be building new bridges. Now where did i put that welding gear.
