Residents fight homes plan for station site

ANGRY residents are fighting a plan to build more than 30 homes on the goods yard at Padgate railway station, Warrington.
The development off Green Lane, Padgate,  would consist of 31 dwellings including six detached houses, 12 semi-detached houses, four terraced properties and nine apartments in a three-storey block.
A plan to build 27 flats on the site in 1997 was refused planning consent but officers are now recommending the scheme be approved.
But 15 nearby residents are objecting on the grounds of highway safety, loss of access to the west bound platform of the station, loss of privacy and damage to ecology.
Officers say the site is classed as previously developed land and the scheme is considered acceptable.
Five of the one bedroom flats will be offered at an affordable rent and four two bedroomed houses ill be for shared ownership. This mix is acceptable.
The design of the houses is considered in keeping with the surrounding area.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee will consider the application on Wednesday.

  1. Who is going to want to buy a property so close to a rail track? A better idea would be to plant some trees to soak up the pollution! Building them is one thing, managing to sell them is another!
