THE doors of Cheshire Police’s headquarters will be thrown open to the public on Sunday, July 16 – to show off the good work done around the clock by the county’s police and fire services.
Blue Light Open Day is a hugely popular event that gives people a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the outstanding work of the county’s emergency services will run from 11.30am to 4.30pm.
Due to the growing popularity of the event, this year it will be ticket only. This is to manage the number of visitors, ensuring everyone can enjoy the day in a comfortable environment.
Tickets, which are free, will be made available online from 12noon on Monday, June 19 and are available on a first come, first served basis.
Those lucky enough to secure their tickets will experience an array of interesting stalls, displays and interactive demonstrations. Find out what it’s like to ride in cabin of a real fire engine, meet the stars of the Police Interceptors show; and get up close and personal with canine crimefighters. They could even watch the Chief Constable being petrol bombed!
Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane said: “This will be my first Open Day as Commissioner and I’m really looking forward to welcoming the public to the event so they can see up close the fantastic work that our police and fire officers do every day.
“It promises to be a fantastic day out for everyone so I would urge you to make sure you get your tickets when they become available on June 19.”
Fire Authority chairman Cllr Bob Rudd added: “I am really looking forward to the Open Day so that members of the public can see the great work that the Fire Service and the Police do. We have had a number of these events over the years and they are always very well attended and a great family day out.”
Chief Constable Simon Byrne said: “I think it is important that the public can look behind the scenes to see what we do every day to protect you. We know there’s a real appetite from the public to learn about our work with the success of TV programmes like Police Interceptors and 999:What’s your Emergency?
“If you’re considering joining the emergency services, it’s a fabulous opportunity to find out a bit more what the job’s about. There will be an awful lot to see and do here, and it promises to be a lot fun!”
Paul Hancock, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer, added: “This is the eighth Joint Emergency Service Open Day and it’s always been very well attended in the past. This year we hope it will once again give the public an insight into the work we do, but more importantly help to educate people around the dangers of fire and about driving safely on our roads.”
