“Bee-ing” friendly for Lymm in Bloom

LYMM is again preparing for the Britain in Bloom North West competition – and the theme this year is “bee-ing friendly for Lymm.”

Judging takes place on July 19 and the organisers – the Lymm in Bloom voluntary group – are hoping they can do even better this year.
Previously the village has won a Silver in 2013 and Silver Gilts in 2014, 2015 and last year.

Lymm in Bloom look after and plant many of the displays in the village and this year there are more insect-friendly plants being planted, including a colourful display by Lymm in Bloom volunteers in the Sunken Garden with bee-friendly plants used in bedding displays.

The theme was chosen after the committee recognised the importance of pollinating insects.

Displays have also been planted by Lymm Jubilee WI, Lymm Jubilee Gardening Club, Lymm Churches, Lymm Youth and Community Centre, Lymm Traders, Lymm Parish Council and Warrington Borough Council.

Members of the group also run gardening clubs at Statham Primary School, Lymm Village Hall Pre-School and look after St Peter’s churchyard in Oughtrington.
They also have ties to the Lymm Environment and Heritage Group, Oughtrington Community Orchard, The Lymm Festivities Group, Low Carbon Lymm, Keep Lymm Kleen and the Lymm Open Gardens.

Group chairman and founder Ben Selwood said: “A lot of people don’t often realise that most of the planting in the village is planted and looked after voluntarily. We would like to thank our partner organisations and the volunteers who look after and ensure our flowerbeds and local areas look great. We need your help to ensure the village looks as good as it can for the judges on July 19.

“This year Altrincham in Bloom is through to the national finals of the competition and we would like to wish them every success.”

Lymm in Bloom working parties are held on the last Sunday in the month at the Sunken Garden – next to Sexton’s Village Bakery – at 10:30am unless otherwise stated.
